Abstract

The impact of cooperative network embedding on firm innovation performance has attracted academic attention. However, few studies have examined how to leverage the embedding of cooperative network relationships and structural embedding among R&D entities to acquire diverse and heterogeneous resources, thereby promoting breakthroughs in key core technologies. Based on network embeddedness theory and resource-based theory, this study empirically examines the impact of cooperative network relationship embedding and structural embedding on breakthroughs in key core technologies using empirical evidence from China's high-tech manufacturing industry from 2010 to 2020. The study finds that dual embedding of cooperative networks has a significant promoting effect on breakthroughs in key core technologies, and this conclusion remains valid after robustness testing. Furthermore, technological diversification, absorptive capacity, and enterprise digital transformation have significant moderating effects on the relationship between dual embedding of cooperative networks and breakthroughs in key core technologies. Higher levels of technological diversification and absorptive capacity have a more significant positive moderating effect on the relationship between cooperative network relationship embedding and breakthroughs in key core technologies, while higher levels of enterprise digital transformation have a more prominent positive moderating effect on the relationship between cooperative network structural embedding and breakthroughs in key core technologies. This study confirms the positive impact of dual embedding of cooperative networks on breakthroughs in key core technologies, providing theoretical guidance for governments to promote network governance and guide enterprises in achieving breakthroughs in key core technologies.
